Frequently Asked Questions
Now onto the explanations relating to what the site is about. This F.A.Q was compiled by toasteronfire and edited by myself, Purpleyin. Still to come are the entries on the McWeir "conspiracies" and Season 2/3 related questions/answers.
How do I donate money towards the sites upkeep? The site, and it's sister site Weir/McKay Fanfiction Archive, are financed at my own expense (me being Purpleyin). Donations towards hosting and domain name costs are welcomed but entirely voluntary, you do not need to donate to use the site. That said, if you do wish to donate even just a small amount would be greatly appreciated. To do so just click on the donate button below and enter however much you can spare.
What other ways can I support the site(s)? None financially, unfortunately, though we usually do just about alright from small donations. We used to be affiliates with a few sites but this never brought in money and have since stopped using those. The best way to support the site is to use it! :)
How can I link to the site(s)?
You can show support of the site by linking to us in your forum sigs or on your own website/blog. If you wish to use a button or banner to do so we have a selection kindly made for us. Just download it to your computer, then upload it to your own image hosting (no hotlinking, please) and link to either "http://www.mcweir.com", "http://archive.mcweir.com" or directly to "http://central.mcweir.com/".

What is the McKay/Weir ship?
The McKay/Weir ship is a group of people who support either a romantic or friendly relationship between Dr. Rodney McKay and Dr. Elizabeth Weir on the TV show Stargate:Atlantis.
Why do people ship for McKay/Weir?
Shippers have lots of different reasons. The most common reason is that shippers see a connection between the two characters and think they have lots of potential. Some shippers think Rodney is best suited for Elizabeth, some think Elizabeth is best suited for Rodney, and some think they are best suited for each other! Ship also doesn't have to be seen on both sides, or as simply as between two people, some may see it as an unrequited love or as part of a threesome etc. Shipping has as much variety, and hence reasons for it, as anything else in life.
Wait, but isn’t Elizabeth married to Simon?
That has been the subject of much debate. Most fans assume that Elizabeth and Simon had a deep relationship and were living together before she went to Atlantis. However she has never been seen wearing a wedding band in any of the episodes and her abrupt taped message to him in “Rising” indicates that they are most likely significant others rather than husband and wife. The relationship took a further turn for the worse when Elizabeth sent a taped message to Simon in “Letters from Pegasus” encouraging him to not wait for her. The second season of Atlantis gives more attention to their relationship.
How did the McKay/Weir ship get organized?
You can blame it all on MurdocsAngel, who wrote the first ever McKay/Weir fanfic called “Of Chocolate and Edible Boxers”. The huge positive response of that story encouraged her to form the Yahoo group Weirmckayship, the largest collection of shippers. Many people on that group teamed up to create this webpage and fanfiction archive.
What Atlantis episodes have good McKay/Weir moments?
Well, astute shippers can find moments in just about every episode, but the most obvious choice for Season 1 would be “The Eye (111)”. Other Season 1 episodes that have nice McKay/Weir bits include “Rising (101-102)”, “Hide and Seek (103)”, “38 Minutes (104)”, “Home (109)”, “The Storm (110)”, “Sanctuary (114)”, and “The Gift (118)”.
What exactly is “McWeir”?
A combination of McKay and Weir, originally coined by Vana on the Yahoo group. Some shippers love the term while others think it reminds them of McDonalds, so your mileage may vary. :)
What is a “McWeir victim”?
A term for any SGA character that gets whumped (injured) or ignored because they were in the way of McKay/Weir shipping on the show. One example is in the episode “The Eye” where Rodney sends Sheppard to a far grounding station so Elizabeth, who has a bad knee, doesn’t have to walk as far. Another example is from “The Storm” where Rodney practically pushes Zelenka out of the way to report their findings to Elizabeth first.
Are there other websites and forums that support McKay/Weir?
Sure! Check out the links section for the numerous webpages and forum threads that support McKay/Weir. The most prolific forum thread is currently on Gateworld.net, and the biggest internet group is the weirmckayship group on Yahoo.
How can I support the ship?
Lots of ways! It can be as simple as popping into one of the McKay/Weir forum threads or groups to say hello. Or you can go a step further and discuss the ship on the show and speculate on what might happen. Generally promoting and/or contributing to the websites and communities helps. Feeling creative? Try your hand at fanfiction or poetry (the 100 word challenge on the fanfiction archive is a great place to start). Make screencaps of the episodes or create new images using GIMP or photoshop. Try making wallpaper, icons, avatar images, and banners. Anything and everything that deals with McKay/Weir will be appreciated by fellow shippers! | | | | |
